So he does pay attention.
Last week at Alex's preschool a policeman came to talk to the kids. Alex's teacher told me that all the classes were in the chapel and the policeman was asking them questions. Whoever answered a question was given a little bear. When he asked them, "What does a stranger look like?" Alex right away answered with, "Someone you don't know!" I was so proud when his teacher told me this. He's not a shy kid, but I am surprised that he was able to answer the question so quickly and so easily.

I scream, you scream...
We all scream for ICE CREAM!
The kids were really spoiled last week when Grandpa Rudy made them each their own ice cream cones. It was Devin's first cone all to himself and boy, did he enjoy it!

Simple solutions
Yesterday we went to breakfast at IHOP. I tried to order a fruit bowl for Devin and when the waitress told me they were all out of fruit Alex said, "Well you better go buy some!" Then the waitress told him, "It's not something we can just go and buy." To which he replied, "Well, you better go plant some!"

Perfect patient
So much for trying to make it through the year without an ER visit! We ended up there last night after Alex was having trouble breathing and was complaining about pain in his chest and tummy. At first the doc said it was asthma, but after seeing the x-rays she said it could also be Walking Pneumonia. He was given several breathing treatments and we couldn't go home until his breathing wasn't as labored and they were sure he was getting enough oxygen. We got there at 7pm and didn't leave until almost 3am. Unfortunately, we're all too familiar with the lengthy ER trips! And just the day before I was telling a friend, "We've gotta try to go one year without an ER visit." I should've knocked on wood because I think I totally jinxed us!
Throughout the whole ordeal Alex was just the model patient. He was being so adorably sweet, polite, and friendly. When the doc asked him to sit up so she could listen to his lungs he said, "Sure!" When the nurse gave him medicine and asked, "Can you take this for me?" he said, "Yes, I would love to." When she came in again and told him she was going to give him some more medicine he said, "Thanks!" I thought that he was going to freak out when they put the mask for the breathing treatment on him, but we told him it was like a pilot's mask and he had no problem with it at all. I even asked him, "Are you scared?" And he said, "No, I'm not scared. I promise." I was so proud of him. He didn't even complain once the whole time we were there!

This picture was taken today. He's very happy and we're trying not to let him be too active. He's anxiously awaiting his at-home breathing treatment as I'm typing this. The paper he's holding was from a girl whose little brother was in the next bed. She made him a little get well card and I thought that was so sweet!

Here he is with his "pilot's mask." It may be hard to see, but he is smiling.

He finally fell asleep around 11pm, only to be woken up minutes later so the respiratory therapist could pound on his chest to help loosen up his lungs. Poor kid.

Go Stars!
I wanted to do something fun for my birthday this year, so I decided it was time that Joey and I went to our first Dallas Stars game. Okay, so I used to be a big San Jose Sharks fan, but we're in Texas now and I was prepared to make the Stars my new home team. Well, for our first game they definately did not disappoint. They demolished the New York Rangers, scoring goal after goal after goal, with a final score of 10-2! I am officially a Dallas Stars fan now and can't wait to go to another game!
Nastia Liukin was there to drop the puck in the ceremonial opening face-off. I thought that was pretty cool.

Can't wait for cake
I think the kids were more excited about my birthday than I was this year. Once they saw the chocolate cake they just couldn't wait to dig into it. While we were looking for candles they were doing the, "Cake, cake, CAKE!" chant. And of course I had to take pictures, which slowed the process and made them even more impatient!
